

Common Eye Conditions
Our Eyes are really important, not just because they help us see the World around us, but because they can often reveal hidden health issues like diabetes, glaucoma, inflammation and sun damage. MYOPIA (Short Sightedness)
Myopia (short sightedness), is possibly the most common vision condition. Near objects appear clear but blurred in the distance. Myopia can be hereditary or develop gradually or rapidly, often during childhood or adolescence. If you are short sighted, you may have difficulty seeing while driving. Myopia can accelerate in teens and in our twenties if we don't spend enough time outside everyday. Call Eyesite for an appointment.
HYPEROPIA (Long Sightedness)
Hyperopia (long sightedness) is the opposite of myopia and is a common condition when you experience difficulty reading close print even at a young age or cannot concentrate fro long especially in school or Uni. It can bug you at any time in life but it becomes more apparent with more near vision such as studying, phone use, computer use or watching Netflix on your phone :)

ASTIGMATISM (Irregular Shaped Cornea)
Astigmatism is another form of Common correction like Myopia and Hyperopia. The shape of a person's cornea appears irregular. It causes blurred and distorted vision and is corrected with Spectacles or Contact Lenses.
PRESBYOPIA
A natural condition which we tend to notice around 39 - 42 years of age when it becomes harder to read small print. We tend to hold print further away. It's a gradual loss of y our eyes' ability to focus. You can correct the condition with glasses and occasionally contact lenses. Drop in for an eye examination or call Eyesite.
DRY EYES
When your tears are unable to provide adequate lubrication, your eyes become dry. Dry eyes can also occur if you produce poor quality tears. Symptoms include but not limited to, stinging or burning, sensitivity to slight, eye redness, watery eyes, tired eyes and difficulty wearing contacts. You can also experience these symptoms when using devices which may be due to eyestrain. Dry eyes can be treated and is recommended to book an eye health exam.
PTERYGIUM (Common in the Tropics)
Pterygium is the 'skin growth' on the conjunctiva (white part of the eyes). It's prevalent frm being in bright sunlight fro long periods of time, especially when you are near or on water, as the water reflects the sun's harmful UV rays. FLOATERS
Floaters are like cobwebs or black spots in your vision which are noticed more against a white background. Most floaters are age related and can appear like small shapes in your vision and spots that move when your eyes move. See us if you experience a lot of Floaters.
AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION (AMD)
Age-related macular degeneration affects the macular region of the eye. It is the leading cause of severe vision impairments in many countries over 40 years of age. The symptoms of AMD is a gradual decline in the ability to see objects clearly, distorted vision, the dulling of colours, empty or dark spaces that block your central field of vision. CATARACTS (MISTY VISION)
Cataracts often appear like you’re looking through a Dirty Window and is a leading cause of vision impairment. Cataracts are not only an elderly condition; they can occur in young eyes as well. Cataracts is the clouding of the lens in the eye which over time leads to a decrease in vision. At Eyesite we routinely examine the eyes for Cataracts.
GLAUCOMA
Glaucoma is a condition where Abnormal Eye Pressures affect the optic nerve and can lead to Blindness. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness for people over the age of 60 although it can occur at any age. There are NO symptoms and it’s a gradual deterioration of the eyes. Eyesite routinely checks the pressures of your eyes.
SUNBURN (UV DAMAGE)
Our eyes are extremely sensitive to the sun’s UV rays and can easily burn. Sunburned eyes may feel painful or gritty. Protecting your eyes from UV rays are the only preventative measure. Too much sun exposure to the eyes increases your risk of cataracts, age-related macular degeneration and even eyelid cancer. CONJUNCTIVITIS
Conjunctivitis or ‘Cika’, is a common condition where the white part of the eye turns a pinkish. This is due to the eyes clear outer layer and the eyelid becoming inflamed. It is important to stop wearing contact lenses whilst affected by conjunctivitis. It is Contagious by touch so you need to keep washing your hands, Don’t touch your eyes or share things with others e.g Pens, keyboards, phones etc
